In The Same Stall: Periods by Aliz Bineth
This photographic project delves into the often- overlooked realm of public toilets used by women*, capturing the conditions, designs, and shared experiences of menstruators. To address the issue of period inequality, the images shed light on the scarcity of menstrual products, hygiene standards, and sanitation supplies, highlighting the distinct needs of women* in public spaces.
The project titled "In the Same Stall: Periods." explores restroom dynamics and reveals the broader issue of inadequate facilities for women*. Beyond the physical aspects, it portrays the unspoken connections found in toilets across public toilets, where women* connect, support each other, and share many times the similar experience of unfulfilled needs when opening the toilet door—an everyday ritual hidden from those unfamiliar with the nuances of female restrooms. Through these visuals, the project aims to prompt reflection on safety, solidarity, and equality in shared spaces.
